Back in the Day
In 1929 my grandfather Joe Geiger started his transportation business in a town that was known then as "The World’s Playground", Atlantic City, NJ. The country was about to enter the Great Depression, and the collapse of our economy would create a climate in the business environment, that even some of the most educated and prominent entrepreneurs would fail to endure. At just nineteen years of age and a sixth grade education under his belt, my Pop borrowed enough money to purchase a used passenger vehicle and began to transport people for hire. Two generations have come to pass, and my family now owns and operates one of the largest fleets of limousines in the country. My Pop is no longer with us, but the results of his efforts have paved the way for a comfortable living for me, my family and over two hundred and fifty people in the community.

When I think back about Pop, what I remember most was how hard he was always working. Even when I was a little boy, he hadn’t much time to spend with us, as he was always cultivating his business. It wasn’t until I was about 27 years old, that I was really able to understand just how sharp Pop really was. When I say that he was sharp, I mean he had the sort of intellect a prize-fighter had when he steps in the ring. Pop’s ring was the transportation. He knew that in order to become a contender, more than anything else, it would take hard work. The intelligence used in business is generally gained through experience. Just as the prize-fighter, the more time you spend in the ring, the more experience you gain, hence the more intelligent and competitive you become at your game. But the most important piece of advice that I gained from my Pop, was so fundamental. He would lift his hand up to his eye, and position his fingers as if he was pinching the wing off of a fly, and then say, "to be the best, you only have to work this much harder than the other guys.” He was absolutely right. Obviously it takes more than just hard work, but this is the key ingredient to the success of any business.
We believe our operation in Atlantic City is successful for several reasons. First of all, we do work harder than the other guys. Secondly, we try to focus on integrity. We have committed ourselves to honesty with our customers, our vendors and our employees. When it comes to having services or products provided to you, there is nothing that holds the importance of paying your bills promptly. It is not that we have necessarily done any brain scheming tactic to outwit our competition, we just stick to the basics. Coupled with common sense, a little bit of smarts and hard work, I believe you have the perfect recipe for a successful business.
